As part of the on-going construction, please be advised of the following construction activities happening in the upcoming weeks.
Construction Details:
Description of Work:
Replacement of the existing storm and sanitary infrastructure along Dawson Street between Alpha Avenue and Beta Avenue. This initial work will take place over three stages, including: (i) Dawson/Beta intersection, (ii) Dawson East, and (iii) Dawson West.
Dates:
Monday, February 23, 2026, through Saturday, April 11, 2026, inclusive
Work Hours:
Monday through Friday, 7 am to 8 pm Saturday, 9 am to 8 pm
Closures:
- 24/7 phased road closure of Dawson Street between Alpha Avenue and Beta Avenue. This includes both vehicle travel lanes.
- Access/egress for local business traffic will be maintained.
- The sidewalk on the south side of Dawson Street will remain open.
Mitigation Measures:
The following steps will be taken to manage the impact of the closures.
- A third-party engineer will attend site daily to carry out inspections and provide reports to the City of Burnaby as to compliance with the approved Traffic Control Permits.
- Public notification boards outlining the closures and other key information will be installed prior to commencement of works.
- Changeable Message Signs (CMS) will be installed one week prior to commencement of the works and will remain in place throughout the duration of the works to ensure the public is continually aware of the closures and to help divert traffic and alleviate congestion.
- The City of Burnaby is implementing temporary signal modifications at the intersection of Lougheed Hwy and Beta Avenue to aid the flow of traffic off of Beta Avenue.
- Traffic Control Personnel will be on-site, as always, to direct traffic and ensure public safety.
